Location: Who Owns It, Who Gets to Use It, and Who Will Make Money from It?
Is it finally an opportune time for mass market commercialization of location based services? After over a decade of development and disappointments, the sector is just beginning to experience early adoption. Location information—a compelling and inherent asset of mobility—has the potential to drive new capabilities and offerings across communications, content, commerce, and community services. However, business models among the ecosystem participants are uncertain and key questions linger about location information ownership, access and use, as well as about revenue source and sharing.

In this installment of Rutberg Quarterly, a panel of wireless operators, Internet application firms, startup application developers, device manufacturers, and solutions providers will discuss 1) consumer interests and expectations for services, pricing, and policies, 2) current and future capabilities of underlying networks, devices, and middleware, and 3) partnership models and economic incentives for participants in the ecosystem.
