Will 2010 be the Year of Mobile Video?
The next 18 months might bring substantial change to mobile video adoption and market dynamics. In Japan and South Korea, free-to-air services are already generating consumer usage in the tens of millions of users. Further, in the United States, services around ATSC are set to launch by the end of the year, with broad support across the wireless and broadcast industries. As free-to-air broadcast gains momentum, it will affect dynamics around mobile video service combinations, business models, and partnership strategies.
In this installment of Rutberg Quarterly, a panel of executives across disparate ecosystems-from carriers and handset OEMs to aggregators and advertisers-will discuss what we have learned so far about consumer interest in mobile video, whether free-to-air services will serve as the catalyst for renewed mobile video growth, and how consumer adoption and industry revenues can grow increase and scale across different mobile video services.
